Bayern Munich: Choupo-Moting extends until summer 2024

History will continue to be written next season. Cameroonian centre-forward Éric Maxim Choupo-Moting, 33, has extended his contract with Bayern Munich for one year until the summer of 2024, the Bavarian club announced in a statement on Friday. “+ Choupo is an artist with the ball, he has performed very well in recent years. During the first leg of this season, he helped us in the center forward position, to fill the holes we had, ”explained Bayern Munich sporting director Hasan Salihamidzic.

“I feel very good here, my family also feels good in Munich, this is an important point for me”, rejoiced the Cameroonian international (73 caps, 21 goals), quoted in the press release. “Naturally, I’m also happy to be able to help the team so much,” he added.

Éric Maxim Choupo-Moting arrived in Bavaria in the fall of 2020 (end of contract with Paris SG), for an initial one-season contract until summer 2021, extended for the first time by two years until as of June 30, 2023.

In his first two seasons, he had little playing time, blocked by Bayern’s goal machine Robert Lewandowski. The departure of the Polish star for FC Barcelona in the summer of 2022 opened the door to him for a starting place. Unavailable at the start of the season due to an injury to the aisne, Choupo-Moting imposed itself from October onwards as the solution at the forefront of the Munich attack.

With the confidence of coach Julian Nagelsmann, he has scored 15 goals (including three in the Champions League) since October, and delivered four assists, always tenured except for one league match (gastro -enteritis) in early February. He should start again on March 8 against PSG in the knockout stages of the Champions League.
