The funeral of Just Fontaine, who died on Wednesday March 1 at the age of 89, will take place on Monday March 6, in Toulouse. The Midi Dispatch learned from his entourage that the former striker of the Blues, Nice and Stade de Reims would be buried in the city where he lived for almost 60 years and where he had run a sportswear business. The ceremony will take place at 2 p.m. in St. Stephen’s Cathedral. Many personalities from the world of sport and anonymous are expected. The acting president of the French football federation, Philippe Diallo, is also expected to attend.
A first tribute to the top scorer of the 1958 World Cup (13) took place in Toulouse, this Wednesday, in the preamble to the quarter-final of the Coupe de France between Toulouse and Rodez (6-1). Wreaths of flowers were thus placed at the foot of a portrait of the former player of the France team.
